In 2000, the foundation of the Monasteryo de Tarlac was laid at the Eco-Tourism Park in Brgy. Lubigan, San Jose, upon the generosity of then-Governor Jose “Aping” Yap and his belief in the vision and mission of The Servants of the Risen Christ Monastic Community. To mark it, the very first Eucharistic Celebration and the erection of the first cross were held. A 30-foot statue of the Risen Christ, believed to guard the province, may be seen overlooking the vast lands of San Jose and its breath-taking mountain views. Even as these stand to be a few of Monasteryo de Tarlac’s attractions, many visit the place from all over the country for its solemn and most revered atmosphere. After all, Monasteryo de Tarlac boasts of the Reliquary of the True Cross of Jesus Christ. Found some 300 meters above sea level along the mountain ranges of the town of San Jose in 2005, the relic of the true cross of Jesus Christ – the only one in Asia – rests in the Monasteryo’s chapel and receives 600 to 800 visitors per week.
